The workshop consists of 6 hours dancing throughout saturday and sunday. It is an interplay of choreographic steps and improvised movements containing different layers of intensity. After dynamic movements a more quiet sequence with focus on the breath will follow so that the body can integrate and fully land in the experience. What is truly special about Tchekpo Dans way of teaching is that the body will never get exploited but instead new pathways are opened up from where endless resources of energy can be received. Moving itself becomes as natural as breathing and one feels the connection to the ground strengthened. The rhythms of the music are in joyful communication with the dancing body unleashing vibrancy and new levels of energy.

Fusing elements of modern dance with African traditional dance makes this dance style not only energetic and fun but also elegant. Tchekpo Dans personality and humour such as the way he integrates all levels of dance backgrounds and life experiences makes his workshops absolutely outstanding and highly inclusive to everybody.
Dancer, choreographer and teacher Tchekpo Dan Agbetou studied dance in Benin/ Westafrica such as Modern and Jazz in New York at the Alvin-Ailey School Steps on Broadway. He combines the mythology of his african roots with the expressivity of the modern dance and the classical ballet. Elements of his classes are the origins of african dance and the dynamics of western jazz dance. 1991 he founded the Tchekpo Dance Company and established the dance centre DansArt Tanznetwork Bielefeld. He performs and teaches in whole Europe, USA, Asia and Africa. Since 2021 he is member of the ethics commission of Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.

Lernen Sie verschiedene Facetten der Kultur kennen – mit und ohne Tanzaktivität Unsere Reise bietet als Erlebnisreise oder aktive Teilnahme an Tanzworkshops eine Einführung in das geistige und kulturelle Leben des westafrikanischen Landes. Durch unterschiedliche Veranstaltungen, Zeremonien und Zusammentreffen kann das soziale und kulturelle Leben von Benin entdeckt werden. Die Unterbringung erfolgt in einer Hotelanlage direkt am Meer und der Lagune, mit klimatisierten Zimmern (WLAN) und drei Mahlzeiten* täglich (hauptsächlich traditionelle Landesküche, aber auch vegetarische Kost möglich). EN Get to know different facets of the culture of Benin - both with and without active dance. Our journey leads us into the cultural and spiritual life of this beautiful West African country. You are free to actively participate in dance workshops, or simply join us for an African adventure trip. Discover the social and cultural life of Benin through different events, ceremonies and encounters. Accommodation will be in a hotel directly on the ocean with a lagoon nearby. Rooms are air- conditioned with free WIFI. Three meals are included daily (traditional cuisine with vegetarian option available).
